Status Update – April 6, 2021
Submitted by Bernie Ashe, John Thomsen and Paul Silke (pool committee members)
Last fall and winter our contractor, Pool Works, began work on the excavation and on removing the old concrete deck and all the pipes and conduit that feed the pool. New pipes have now been installed and the entire mechanical system has been replaced with a new saltwater system. The concrete walls of the pool have been repaired, new lights have been added, the water leak has been fixed, and there is new coping surrounding the top of the pool.
Pool dimensions remain the same at 60’ x 30’ at the shallow end and 60’ x 40’ at the deep end. New railings will be installed on both sets of stairs leading into the pool, and new ladders will be installed on the sides. New tiles and a new white membrane will also be installed (click here for details). In addition, lines have been painted on the pool floor for lane swimmers, and anchors have been installed to secure future floating lane dividers.
The usable deck surface has been dramatically increased by 30%, to 5,500 square feet overall. This will allow significant improvement to seating capacity around the pool, while also enhancing the food and beverage experience.
The Amberwood Lounge and Eatery (ALE) will provide table service with a special poolside menu. Patrons will undoubtedly enjoy lounging by the pool in the new furniture, which will include 48 chairs around 12 tables, 14 loungers, and four 125 square foot shade structures. To provide sufficient shade, umbrellas will be added to half of the tables not covered by shade structures. We have made a significant investment in high quality aluminum furniture called “Ratana.” The chairs weigh 15 pounds, with a capacity to hold 350 pounds in weight. The loungers weigh 37 pounds each and have a 400-pound weight capacity. Tabletops are made of Durawood, which is a maintenance free synthetic material. We will add more furniture in future years as our budget permits.
The pool area will be surrounded by a new black iron fence with two self-locking gates. This new fence will have an open look and will improve the sightlines to both the golf course and the outside area.
Portable Accessible lift capabilities may be added in 2022 should the demand necessitate. (Note: we do not plan to install anchors poolside).
You will notice an area identified as “kids’ area future use” on the layout drawings. We have identified this as a future investment but have not determined what we will do there. Pending that decision, we have installed electrical and water connections and conduit to reach that area, and we will engage with members and other pool users to determine the best use for this space.
The area identified as “softscape” in the layout will not be professionally landscaped “green” for several years. As a temporary measure it will be clad in river stone, and we will add plants using portable planters throughout the deck area and in the existing flowerbeds.
