It’s often easy to be confused between AVRA and the Amberwood Village Golf and Country Club (AVGCC). (Essentially, it’s the difference between an owner (AVRA) and a manager (AVGCC).) Both have played a part in our history, although AVGCC’s formal role is nearing an end. For some 30 years AVGCC managed the golf course, pool, tennis courts and club house under a 40-year lease with AVRA. Five years ago, AVGCC contracted TMSI Sports Management, a professional sports and recreation management company, to take over daily operations of the course and other recreational facilities.
Today our 50-acre site houses: the executive, nine-hole golf course designed by John Watson, its equipment shed and pump house; a large outdoor, heated swimming pool, tennis and pickleball courts; a club house with its pro shop, shower and locker rooms, members’ lounge, games room, and library and the casually-elegant Amberwood Lounge and Eatery (ALE). Next to the club house, the annex is also leased to a private company, J.F. Sabourin and Associates Inc. (JFSA), that provide services in water resources engineering, environmental management, and land planning.
In ALE, we have a premier special event and dining destination where culinary and service excellence is enhanced by our club’s beautiful landscape. It offers seasonal dining and a year-round venue for marking life’s milestones—weddings, birthdays, celebrations of life and more. ALE’s take-out menu is extensive and constantly changing, providing curb-side pickup of everything from casual meals to three-course dinners, and High Tea to a Happy Hour wine a Charcuterie board service. You can also buy restaurant quality produce through ALE. Visit its website and sign up for the newsletter: www.aleottawa.ca.
Through TMSI, the club benefits from professional knowledge and experience in golf course management. . In recent years, TMSI has provided use of otherwise costly equipment, improved grounds maintenance, assistance with major events, new signage, social media advertising and budget preparation. TMSI has also operated a successful summer camp for kids, paying AVGCC to use our facilities. It was instrumental in bringing ALE to the clubhouse — the most successful special events/restaurant tenant in decades.
